Garage Floor Coatings in San Jose, CA

RhynoPoxy Coatings installs flake garage floors across San Jose and the South Bay. More of the garages we survey here have a charger on the wall than anywhere else we work, and it changes the survey rather than the floor. What is fixed to the walls, where the car actually sits and what now ends up on the concrete are all slightly different from the garage of ten years ago.

San Jose Garage Floor Coatings Overview

A San Jose garage is often the most equipped room in the house. Alongside the usual, there is frequently a wall charger, its conduit, sometimes a subpanel and a length of cable that lives on or near the floor. None of that changes what a good garage floor is. It changes what we need to look at before quoting one.

The other thing that has changed is the car. It is heavier than the one it replaced, it sits in the same spot every night, and it drips almost nothing. That shifts what the floor has to deal with away from fluids and toward weight in one place and whatever gets walked and driven in from outside. The systems we use are the ones on our garage floor coatings page.

What a Charger in the Garage Actually Changes

Not much about the floor, as it turns out. Quite a lot about the survey and the day itself. Here is the honest list.

The charger and its conduit stay put

Anything fixed to the wall is staying there. The coating is taken up to a clean line beneath and around it rather than the unit coming off and going back on, which is somebody else's trade and a risk nobody needs. Where conduit runs down to the floor, the edge is finished against it properly.

The cable is the thing to plan for

A charging cable spends its life on or just above the floor and gets dragged across it. That is worth knowing at the survey, because it tells us where the wear will actually be, and it is worth knowing on the day, because the cable needs to be somewhere else while the floor goes down.

Parked in the same place, every night

An electric car is heavier than what it replaced and it stops in almost exactly the same position each time. That concentrates the load into four small areas of the floor rather than spreading it around, which is a specification question rather than a problem, and one we would rather answer before laying the floor than after.

Less to drip, more to track in

There is far less oil and coolant reaching the floor than there used to be. What still arrives is water, road grit and brake dust, all carried in on the car and on shoes. A non-porous surface deals with that by letting it sit on top and sweep off, rather than absorbing it the way bare concrete does.

Where the second one will go

Plenty of the garages we coat will have another charger in them within a few years, usually on the opposite wall. If that is likely, say so. It costs nothing to know at survey and it means the floor is not being cut into later at the one point where somebody drills.

The rest of the garage is still a garage

Bikes, bins, boxes and a freezer are all still in there, and the floor is specified for a room in use rather than a display. Everything that moves goes out before we start and comes back the same evening or the next day, depending on the system.

How a San Jose Garage Floor Install Runs

  • A look at the walls, not just the floor. We measure the slab and assess it, and we note what is fixed to the walls and where anything comes down to floor level. That is what decides where the edges and cut lines are, and it is the part of a San Jose survey that takes the longest.
  • Your blend, from the color chart. Pick a blend off our color chart and it lands on the quote beside the gloss level and the named system. Nothing else about the job waits on you after that.
  • One number, agreed up front. Getting the slab ready, the repairs it turns out to need, the system, the blend and the warranty all sit inside one figure. The date is settled when the price is.
  • Empty by the morning we arrive. Cars, bins, bikes and the boxes down the side all need to be out. The charger, the conduit and anything else screwed to the wall stays exactly where it is, and we coat to a clean line against it. The slab is then diamond ground back to open concrete.
  • Coating, and getting the car back in. Coating and flake go down in the same visit. Before we leave you have two hours in writing: the one after which it takes foot traffic, and the one after which the car can come back in. The cable and anything else that left the floor goes back once it does.

Why San Jose Homeowners Choose Us

  • We survey what is on the walls. A quote that only measures the slab has not looked at half of what makes a modern garage awkward. The fixed equipment is what sets the edges, and getting it wrong shows on the finished floor rather than on the quote.
  • The South Bay is normal service area. San Jose is quoted and installed the same way as anywhere else we work, with our own crew and the same written warranty against peeling and delamination.
  • One floor, no joins. The bay under the car and the rest of the garage are laid as one continuous surface, so there is nothing to see where one part of the floor does more work than another.

Our other garage pages cover Fairfield, Vacaville, Napa, Concord and Sacramento. We also cover San Jose for industrial epoxy flooring and urethane cement flooring.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you have to take the charger off the wall?
No, and we would rather not. It stays where it is and the floor is finished to a clean line beneath it. Taking down and refitting electrical equipment is an electrician's job, and introducing that into a one-day floor install adds cost and risk for no benefit to the finished floor.
  • Is the floor affected by a heavier car parked in one spot?
Not in the way people expect. A domestic vehicle, whatever it weighs, is well inside what these systems carry. What matters is that it is the same four contact points in the same place every night, which is worth knowing at the survey so the bay is specified with that in mind rather than assumed to be the same as the rest of the floor.
  • Can we still charge the car while the floor is curing?
Not in the garage, because the car is not in the garage. You get the hours before foot traffic and before the car can come back in writing before the day, so it can be planned around. Most people arrange a charge beforehand or use a public charger for the day.
  • We might add a second charger later. Should we wait?
No. Tell us where it is likely to go and the floor is laid with that in mind. An anchor going into a coated floor later is a normal thing, and knowing roughly where means the edge detail near that wall is right from the start rather than being tidied up afterward.
  • What does a coated garage floor cost in San Jose?
Mostly square footage and what state the slab is in, and the figure is fixed once we have been out to look. Fixed equipment on the walls moves it slightly as well, because cutting in cleanly around a charger, its conduit and a subpanel is more work than a bare wall.
